A Mom’s Guide to Spring Reset

How I’m recharging routines, habits, and goals to bloom in this next season of life

The first quarter of the year was about getting out of the holiday hangover, setting up new goals, selecting summer camps for the kids, and booking that much-needed summer vacation. And now that that’s all behind us, Spring is upon us—and just like that, we’ve entered the second quarter of the year.

Whether you’ve kept your New Year goals alive or not, this season invites us to take a breath, look around, and reassess.

This year, I promised myself that it would be different—possibly a career change, personal change, starting a new business, etc. Now, it's Spring, and I’ve only gotten as far as writing a new business plan (which I shall reveal when the time is right—stay tuned!).

We’ve all witnessed the changes in the new government administration, we’ve seen the shifts being set forth, and I can’t help but wonder—what does that mean for us, for me? For the mom trying to do it all, stay afloat, and still hold onto a dream or two?

Spring is reminding me that change takes time—but it also takes action. It’s not just about blooming; it’s about doing the unseen work underground first.

My dear friend and colleague says to me, “Donata, you create your own luck. You make luck happen.” And the more I sit with that, the more I’m beginning to believe it.

This season, I’m giving myself permission to reset—not to start over, but to realign.

We often wait for the stars to align, the timing to be perfect, the kids to settle, the finances to stretch just a little more—but what if Spring is just nudging us to move anyway? To shift something—anything—in our routine that brings us closer to the life we envision?

🌞 Resetting the Routine

For me, that’s looked like waking up just 15 minutes earlier—not to conquer the world, but to center myself before the morning rush begins. Some mornings it's journaling or stretching exercises. Others, it's simply sipping coffee in silence (which, let’s be honest, is a luxury in itself). But even that small shift has made a big difference.

Resetting routines doesn’t mean overhauling your entire life. It means asking yourself: What’s one small thing I can change that gives me more peace, more clarity, or more energy?

Maybe it's:

  • Turning off notifications after 8 PM
  • Starting dinner earlier to avoid the 9 PM kitchen clean-up
  • Reclaiming your lunch break for a quick walk or quiet reading

James Clear, in his book Atomic Habits, talks about how making small changes—just 1% better each day—can lead to extraordinary results. It’s not always the big leaps that shape our lives, but the small, consistent steps we choose to take even when no one’s watching.

Whatever it is—it doesn’t have to be perfect, just intentional.

And most importantly, it’s about controlling what you can control. I can’t control the stock market. I can’t control gas prices or unexpected curveballs at work. But I can control what I consume—what I read, what I listen to, the conversations I entertain, and the way I speak to myself.

That, my friends, is where the real power begins.

📝 Revisiting Goals

In January, my goals felt big, bold, and exciting. A new career direction. Going back to school. Starting a new business. Being more present with my kids. And let’s not forget drinking more water—because hydration is a lifestyle.

But as the months went on, life kept doing what it does best—life-ing. And suddenly, some of those goals started collecting dust on the back shelf of my mind.

Now that we’re in Spring, I’m taking a moment to pause and check in:

  • Which goals still light me up when I think about them?
  • Which ones feel forced or no longer aligned?
  • And most importantly—what small action can I take this month to move just one of them forward?

The truth is, every goal doesn’t have to be achieved in a sprint. Some just need to be kept warm—nurtured quietly in the background until the timing is right.

For me, writing that new business plan felt like a huge win. Even if I haven’t launched it yet, it’s one step closer than I was before. And that’s the kind of progress I’m learning to celebrate.

So if you’re feeling behind on your goals, let me remind you: You’re not behind. You’re just still in motion. Reroute if you need to. Rest if you must. But don’t forget why you started.

🌷 A Final Note

This season, give yourself grace and space. Start again—quietly, boldly, or somewhere in between. Your reset doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

And if you’ve already started your own Spring reset, I’d love to hear what’s shifting in your world. Drop a comment, send a message, or just whisper a promise to yourself: I’m still becoming.

We all are.
